Note that minding the days left not only helps to
reorder items before you need them, but it helps you to avoid
spoilage, and obsolescence in general. Did you ever
find two year old chicken when you were cleaning out your freezer?
Somehow it just kept getting pushed back and back until you didn't see it
anymore. What a shame! You have to throw
it out. Or if you don't know how old it is, why not play freezer roulette
and try to eat it? Okay, but brace yourself. It's a good idea to put freezer-stored items
under management. Then you can eliminate that problem. It keeps your freezer more open, too!
Cost per Day
Each day, you pay a cost to cover each of your needs. Up until now it's been
pretty hard to determine what it is for most of them. MakeLifeEasy tracks
the cost per day of the needs you have under management. It allows you to view
them, rank them, and take action. You just might decide to change your purchasing
and usage patterns if you find that your cost per day for covering a need is
higher than your life priority for that need.
Soon you'll be able to measure cost per day rankings for each vendor you use,
to see who's giving you the best value overall.
For more information, see the
Cost Per Day Curve.

Products
A product (or service) is something offered to you
by a seller. A product isn't an asset until you actually buy it. For
example, say Off-Mart sells a 4-pack of Scotch brand Magic tape for $1.49.
When you actually buy two of them, you have an asset of 8 rolls.
MakeLifeEasy keeps a list of the products and services you've purchased to
help you easily enter new assets of the same product, and to get price
history reports by product.
Sellers
Sellers sell products and services.
You can track prices by seller if you want to see how the different
sellers stack up against each other (for example, who sells you coffee at
the best price).
Users/People
You can track your assets by the "user"
(person, pet, car, rental property, etc.) using the asset. If you want an
expense report by user/person, or to distinguish one user's need for a
basic need from another's (for example, to distinguish dad's need for
shaving cream from junior's).
Locations
You can track your needs by location (e.g. rooms of
a house, buildings, properties, etc.). This is useful for expense reporting
by location (similar to reporting by person/user above) and if you
want to take inventory by location every now and then.
Kits (Coming soon)
Kits are bundles of new needs that you can instantly add to your shopping
list. These are useful when you make a life change or start a new project. For
example, here are some life changes and new projects for which you usually need
to buy some things:
- Having a baby (and all the life stages of little ones)
- Moving to a new apartment
- Buying a house
- Starting a garden
- Starting a wine cellar or home bar
- Stocking a first aid kit
- etc. etc. etc.
