  • How to... Manage Your Home Inventory - At a Glance

This page shows your list of assets by location, along with information about their value. You can use this page to enter your home inventory, both initially and as you acquire new assets. It also provides a list of inventory by location, which can be useful in the event that you lose part of your possessions to theft or damage.

To bulk-load inventory for the first time, you can print out as many Inventory Collection Worksheet <s as you need. Click on the "Get Worksheet" button to view and print the Inventory Collection Worksheet. Then visit all the locations in your home and jot down inventory data on each item you want to record.

To load inventory with this page:

    1. Select a location (e.g. a room in your home). You can add a new location by clicking on the "+" button next to the list.
    2. (Optional) Click refresh to view the inventory recorded for that location (though the page will refresh automatically when you select a location).
    3. Under "Add asset", select whether you're entering a new asset (just acquired) or an existing asset (one you've had for a while).
    4. Use the Add New Asset < panel at the bottom of the page to enter data about each asset. Refer to that topic for detailed instructions on entering an asset.
    5. Press "Add Asset" when finished to record the asset.

As you load inventory, the items show on the list for the selected location. This list shows valuation data for the asset. See the Saleable Assets Report < for a description of the columns and their data. See also M-V-S Concepts and Calculations for a more advanced explanation.

To view or update inventory for the location shown:

    1. (Optional) You may want to click on the "Refresh" button to be sure you have the most recent asset data.
    2. Find the asset you're looking for in the list, and click on the asset name to view the Asset Properties page opened to the Value & Resale Data panel. You can edit and save the valuation data on that page if you like.

You can print this page to keep a hard copy record of the inventory at this location. Better yet, press "Print Version" to pop up a page that's more suitable for printing, and print that one.
