    "Bought:" (Purchase Data)

  • QUESTION:   Why enter the regular price for an asset? How is this data used by MakeLifeEasy?

ANSWER: You can enter the regular price to keep track of the times you purchased items "on sale", and what the savings was from the regular price. MakeLifeEasy does not currently use this data in any reports or calculations, but save this data! We'll provide some interesting reports using this data in the near future, including (1) your savings based on purchasing items in sale, and (2) if your sellers' sale prices offer true savings, compared to prices obtained from other vendors.

    "Product:" (Product Data)

  • QUESTION:   Once I enter the size for a product, can I change it later?

ANSWER: Partly. The total size of an asset is its product size times the quantity of the product purchased. Right now, you can change the quantity purchased, but not the product size, once the asset is entered. We may improve MakeLifeEasy in a future version to allow this change if necessary.

  • QUESTION:   Say I have several assets covering a need. Can I enter the sizes for some one way, and others a different way? How about if I started entering some one way and change my mind later?

ANSWER: You can't change the size unit of measure from one Base Type to another if you want MakeLifeEasy to manage the asset flow automatically. If you do change it, you will need to ACTIVATE the changed asset manually when the time comes for it to be activated. Also, your price history and inventory reports will be made inaccurate. The numerical value can be changed. For example, you may purchase 250 mg capsules of vitamin C and use 500 mg per day. This would be 2 capsules per day if you were using Count. Your next purchase might be 500 mg capsules. If you were using weight (recommended), your usage rate would still be 500 mg/day. However, your usage rate in Count would change to 1 count/day if you maintained your daily intake.

    "Covers need for:" (Need Data)

  • QUESTION:   On the Add New Asset page, why does the last need selected appear by default?

ANSWER: This helps you to save time picking a need for the next asset. In a few cases the next asset may use exactly the same need as the last asset. In most cases it will use a need in the same top folder (and maybe the same subfolder(s)), so the next need will be "nearby" in the need list, and you won't have to scroll too far to find it. At any rate, it's easy to change the need.

  • QUESTION:   When the Retrieve a Need page pops up from the Add New Asset page, and I select a standard need, why must I click on "OK:Save" after "Pick it"?

ANSWER: That happens because you're about to create a new need from the standard need. Please make sure that's what you want to do! If you already have a need with the same name, you'll create a duplicate. This makes sense in some cases but usually it's better to find your existing need with that name and use it.

    "Management:" (Management Data)

  • QUESTION:   (See the figure) Can I add an asset with product units of "floz" and usage rate units of "ml"?

ANSWER: Absolutely. These are both volume-type units, so MLE will do this unit conversion for you. Check out units compatibility for more information.

  • QUESTION:   I want to add a supply-type asset with "count" units. When I click the Add Asset button, I see two nearly identical warning messages in a row (see figures). What's going on?

ANSWER: MakeLifeEasy does this on purpose. Note that these are two different warnings. MakeLifeEasy wants you to be very careful about adding supply-type assets with count units. The messages explain why.

Asset Seller Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   On the Asset Seller page, where do the links to sellers come from?

    ANSWER:
    1. For custom sellers entered by you, the URL that you entered is used to link to the seller.

    2. MakeLifeEasy has also pre-entered some sellers, including popular web sites. In this case MakeLifeEasy provides the link. Often the link facilitates fast shopping, such as automatically performing a search for you.

Asset Update Panel Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   When you're updating the status of an asset, what's the "-1" button for?

ANSWER: You can use the "-1" button to subtract one entity from an asset with one click. This is useful if you like to update an asset every time you use up an entity. For example, say you buy four bottles of shampoo and you enter that in MakeLifeEasy as an asset. When you use up one, you can go to MakeLifeEasy, find that asset, click "-1", then click "S". This will reduce the count from 4 to 3, and your database will be perfectly up-to-date. This allows you to track this asset very accurately. You may want to track some assets very closely this way, and track others more casually.

Browse Needs Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   The instructions for the Browse Needs page say "If an up-arrow button appears on a list item, click on it to move one level 'up' in the tree." But I've never seen that button. Where is it?

    ANSWER:

You'll see the up-arrow button if you search (not browse) using (a) keyword(s), and a sub-folder shows up in the results. The up-arrow button will appear in front of the sub-folder name, and if you click on it, you'll browse one level up in the tree.

When you're browsing (not searching), if you want to move one level (or more levels) up in the tree, you can click on one of the "Parent folder" names displayed above the results list.

Cost Per Day Curve Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   Why can I only sort the Cost Per Day Curve by Historical Cost per day? I want to sort it other ways, like by Management Type or Current Cost per day. How can I do that?

ANSWER: This report is used for a specific purpose: to help you rank your cost per day for all the needs you satisfy. For this reason the only pertinent way to sort it is by historical cost per day. You can filter by Mgmt Type using the "More..." link, but this is usually not recommended. It's best to see all your needs intermixed, regardless of Mgmt Type. You might be surprised at what you learn!

Inventory Management Data Panel Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   When I entered an asset, I put in 8/1/03 as the expire date but it was saved as 7/31/03. Why is this?

ANSWER: When MLE calculates the days, using the expire date, it calculates them from the day you enter the asset, not the start date of the asset. We're sorry about this little glitch and we plan to correct it soon. In the meantime, you can do this: Once the days are shown in the "Expires in" field, add on any days difference between the date you acquired the asset and the date you're entering the asset. For example, if you acquired an asset on 1/1/03, and you enter the asset on 1/15/03, and you type in 1/30/03 as the expire date, it will put 15 days in the "Expires in" field (not 30), and the asset will show an expire date of 1/15/03, not 1/30/03. That would be an error. So, once MLE puts "15 days" in the "Expires in" field, add another 15 days to it (the difference between 1/1/03 and 1/15/03) and you'll be fine.

Need Folder Properties Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   The Need Properties page's help topic says that "this folder's inventory management data will be inherited by folder and needs created from this folder". But there's no usage rate data for the folder. So what will happen?

    ANSWER:

Actually there's a lot of information here, and it will all be inherited. What the data says is that this folder generally contains items with a supply management type, with a one year expiration (more or less), and the usage rate is (or can be) measured in oz/day. The only thing that's missing is the actual number of oz/day. But all the rest is valuable data that will be propagated (inherited) to this folder's subfolders and needs. This reduces your effort when creating those sub-items.

  • QUESTION:   The "standard/mine drop" down isn't clear (see picture). I expected to get "mine" not the "STD-mine", or "STD" not "Std+mine". What's up?

    ANSWER:

That's the way it's supposed to work, though it may be counterintuitive. When you're looking for standard needs, you would also want to see those that you have selected for your own "STD+mine". There's no good reason to see just the STD ones. Similarly for "mine": you would want to see all your needs, whether or not they are standard needs.

Usage Rate Analysis Ask a question about this page.

  • QUESTION:   What is the meaning of the percent values (see figures) in the usage rate analysis report?

ANSWER: The percent amount is the ratio of that item's stored usage rate to the actual usage rate for the item. For example, in the first line of the figure, the user specified usage rate is .100 oz/day, but the actual usage rate is .128 oz/day, or 128% of the specified amount.

As another example, in the last row, the user specified usage rate is .415 gm/day (which equals .0146 oz/day), but the actual usage rate is .0586 oz/day, or 400% of the specified amount.
